Veteran’s Day

flag-kThank You. That’s what I would like to say to all of the servicemen and women who are out there today serving our country. You sacrifice every day to defend what I hold dearly and I want to say THANK YOU.

I posted this commercial from Budweiser several months ago and I think it is worth posting again. This commercial ALWAYS gives me chills and yes, I cry.

I went to a Cup race a few years ago at Texas Motor Speedway.  One of the entertainment acts performing for the crowd during the prerace fesitivites.  Several members of the Army or National Guard were walking out to prepare for more prerace activites.  Everyone who was sitting in the stands stood up and began cheering and clapping.  It was a wonderful sight to see.  You couldn’t even hear the singer because of the cheers and applause this servicemen and women were receiving.  That’s what was important that day.

So as you go about your day, stop and say Thank You to a current serviceman or servicewoman or to a veteran.  They have earned it.

Race 9: Phoenix

Jimmie wins.  Carl is behind 141 points.  Jimmie must finish 36th or better.  I don’t like to call it this early, but I think Jimmie will win his 3rd championship in a row since Cale Yarborough did it from 1976-78.  I have never been a member of the Jimmie fan wagon, but I have to give his props.

See ya in Homestead everyone!

One more thing…Texas Tech is still #2 in the BCS rankings

For all of us Red Raiders

Texas Tech

Today my #2 Red Raiders will play those Cowboys from Oklahoma State.  I know we can beat OSU, but OSU played Texas hard a few weeks ago.  If this was in Stillwater I would be more concerned than I am.  Coach Leach will have our boys ready for this week.  Some think with the big win last week we would have a hangover, but I don’t think so.

Well, Penn State lost today to unranked Iowa.  So now maybe those who thought Penn State should be #2 can close their pie hole.  If you were that good, perhaps Iowa would not have won scored in last few seconds of the game.  Thank you Penn State.

Now, I am hoping LSU can beat Alabama.  We played Alabama in the Cotton Bowl a few years ago and lost on a last minute field goal.  I still am amazed the ball went through the goal post.  I am not a fan of LSU and never have been, but tonight I am.  If they beat Bama and we can beat OSU we could be number 1.  But we need to get through tonight.

I have my Tech shirt on and ready to cheer on my Red Raiders.  Oh…for those that were wondering what that loud noise was last week…it’s was Lubbock erupting in celebration after Michael Crabtree scored the winning touchdown!

Wreck ‘Em Tech!!!

Update:  Alabama takes LSU to overtime.  Alabama wins 27-21.  Damn!  But it was a good game I have to say.  Alabama intercepted on LSU’s turn in overtime and well…that’s all she wrote..Alabama will be heading to the SEC championship game.

Starbucks and Music

starbucks_coffee_logo_svg1Today is FRIDAY!!!!  WOO HOO!!!

It is finally feeling like fall around here so I decided to stop by my favorite Starbucks establishment this morning to pick up a tall White Chocolate Mocha and a Blueberry Muffin.  I drive up to place my order and suddenly I here it…the guy on the other end begins singing.  That’s right…he was singing.  He just didn’t say “Good morning…blah blah…”, he sang.  I have to say it give me a little chuckle.  As I go around to purchase said coffee and muffin, I nearly drive past the window.  This is definitely a sign I needed my coffee.  I was expecting Singing Starbucks Guy, but instead got an even chippy Starbucks employee.  She proceeded to laugh at the fact that I almost drove away without my coffee.  I just told I was planning to pay for it today and come back tomorrow to get my order.  This made her laugh.  I don’t if it’s in the Starbucks employee handbook or not, but some of them might want to kick it back on drinking the product!

When I am not listening to Sirius NASCAR radio in the monrings on the way to work, I usually put in one of my many CDs I have stashed in the car.  This morning I wanted something kind of peppy instead of the sad, pitiful, feeling sorry for mysefl tunes that I have had in the last couple of days.  So I pop in one of those mixed CDs I so loving created off my itunes.  Here is a list of the tunes that I had blaring from the CD player

  • Hollaback Girl
  • Love Machine
  • Another Brick in the Wall
  • Rubberband Man
  • Chasing Cars
  • I Like to Move It-from Madacasgar movie
  • London Bridge-not the kids version
  • Brickhouse
  • Broken-song from Broken Bridges-movie shown on CMT
  • I Will Survive
  • Genie in a Bottle
  • Panama
  • My Humps
  • Crazy-Gnarls Barkley
  • Hit Me Baby One More Time–yes, I have a Brittany Spears song on the CD–I like the song.
  • Tearin Up My Heart
  • Greatest American Hero theme

I realized that is DEFINTELY an eclectic mix of music, but I guess that’s the way I am with my taste in music.  duck-tgifI try not pigeon hole myself to one genre of music.  I tend to lean towards 80s rock and country, but I have other likes as well.  Some times for me it is about the song, not the genre.  If you perused my ipod right now you would find everything from Barry Manilow to Def Lepard to Twisted Sister to Tony Bennett.  So, crank up that CD player, satellite radio or ipod and HAVE A GREAT FRIDAY!!!!!

Our Country

Whew…I am so glad the presidential campaigning is over.  I know there are those out there who are happy with the results and some not so happy.  Which ever side of the street you voted on, it definitely has been worth watching over last several months.  This is a time in our country that my son will be studying in school.  Both Postman and myself did our voting during Texas’ early voting period.  Little Smoke joined us as we voted.  I wanted Little Smoke to how important it was to vote and how one vote can make a difference.  I remember going to vote with my parents and how that impacted me today.  I thought it was just the coolest thing standing in the voting booth with one of my parents.  I am excited about the change in America that is now happening.  To see how the whole election process occurs and how one person can become president is worth the effort.  I guess that’s about it.  Thanks for voting!
