Make My Day Award
I have been trying to get around the horn as they say to visit everyone’s site, but if I haven’t been in awhile don’t fret…I will there. Work has been SUPER CRAZY! My desk has stacks and stacks of folders on it waiting for processing. I work as an advisor at a major university in Texas and we are in the middle of certifying student athletes and we have the majority of them. It’s a very time consuming job requiring my full attention. But I am at a stopping point so I thought I would post something.
I am the type of person who likes to give than to receive and that is why I want to give a “woo hoo” to my fellow bloggers out there. Some of us are out there blogging because we love it and I would have to include myself in that group. I am not out to change the world or anything like that. I just do it because well…it’s fun! And the envelop please…
This award was given to one of my favorite bloggers Amy over at Amy’s Bad Groove. She is a fellow Tony Stewart and NASCAR fan. She has a great site and she is one of my top stops when I am surfing. So when you get a chance visit her site and tell her Trixie sent ya!

I think I will give the award to the following blogs because they have some good stuff and they really do make my day….
1. Ms. H (Molding Young Minds): She inspires me as a friend on some many levels. I have known Ms. H for awhile. We both know each other’s secrets and well, let’s just say, we could never go into politics. Plus she shares the same obsession as I do…and it’s not NASCAR…I know shocking, but she is a office supply junkie. That’s why I will go broke supporting my NASCAR habit and the office supply habit…Tony’s sponsor is Office Depot.
2. Army of Mom: I discovered her blog right after I created The Park. I have been a lurker on her site for some time and I have even left comments. She is a wonderful writer and has some interesting takes on things. Plus she is a fellow NASCAR fan, Cowboys fan, loves her kids, 80s music, and most of all from Texas. Like Amy’s Bad Groove and Molding Young Minds, a daily read…so zoom on over!
3. Rev Jim (Rev’ Jim’s RantsnRaves): This was a unanimous decision to give him this award. He is a fellow blogger, NASCAR fan, and Tony Stewart fan. He writes some great stuff about NASCAR, plus he is the one who inspired me to write more on NASCAR. Plus he got me to join as one of the bloggers over at NASCAR Bloggers FT Digest even though I don’t post as often as I should. So here’s to Rev Jim….
So if you stop by The Park, take a gander at these sites as well as other listed on The Park, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Race 1: New Hampshire
The race for the elusive Sprint Cup has begun with Greg Biffle making his move right out of the box. I was excited about watching this year’s Chase. I wanted to see if Kyle Busch could keep on his winning ways. I also wanted to see if Jimmie could pull off a third straight championship. Or if a newcomer would make his way to the top spot at Miami. I think this has been the first time in awhile I have been excited about the Chase.
So when it came Sunday morning, I was getting everything ready to sit down and watch the race and then it happened–I realized I had to head to the grocery store to get food for the next two weeks. I forgot to do my shopping on Saturday–ugh. I was hoping to get back in time for the start and I did, but grocery shopping was the reason I didn’t watch much of the race–it was football. And it was even the Cowboys playing, it was my other team the Colts. I did flip back and forth, but you can’t get a feel of the race doing that. Any way…
I did see that Kyle had a rough go of it from the drop of the green flag. I know some of you out there love what has happend to him over the last few races, but as a watcher of NASCAR I am not. Kyle has dominiated the season thus far and I really want to see him compete for the title. That’s the drawback of the Chase. You can go into the Chase having one of the best seasons of your racing career then have it all wiped away. I guess that’s the way it is in the playoffs, just ask the New England Patriots. But this is the first race of the Chase. It’s doesn’t matter where you start, but where you finish the season that matters. Kyle does have a chance to redeem himself this week at Dover–he won the Spring race and he is only 74 points from the top spot at the moment.
Congratulations to Greg Biffle! He was my dark horse pick to win it. I am pumped about him winning the first race. Maybe this is a sign of things to come from the #16 team. He jumped from 9th place to 3rd place in one race. He is only 30 points behind Jimmie and Carl. Things look good for Greg this week at Dover, he won the pole at the spring race as well as a third place finish behind fellow Chasers (Kyle and Carl). He also has a record of 1 win, 4 top 5s, and 7 top 10s at Dover.
Who else may have a chance to come away with a win at Dover this weekend…
Carl–he finished 2nd in the spring behind Kyle. Carl has been in this position before behind Kyle, but if Kyle doesn’t get things back on track, Kyle will be seeing more of the #99 in his front view window.
Matt–he finished 4th after starting in the 21st position in the spring. Matt is 177 points back from the top spot, but this isn’t an unusual spot for Matt to be in. He too will need to put together some pretty good runs and hope the others have bad ones to make it to the top
The Three Js (Jeff, Jimmie, and Jeff)–all three have the potential to come away with a win here. They finished 5th, 7th, and 8th respectively in the Spring
I am sure Dale, Kevin, Tony, and Denny would have found themselves in a better finishing spot in the spring if not for the spin by #19 on lap 20. Looking at Tony’s chances for a win on Sunday, this fan has to be optimistic. He has 2 wins, 9 Top 5, and 12 Top 10s at Dover. He probably could have had a better finish than 41st in the spring if not for the horrible accident. He is only 73 points back and if he wins and the others in front of him have a rough go at it, then he’s right there.
Jimmie, who happens to be my pick to win it all, finished in 2nd on Sunday and is now tied with Carl Edwards for the top spot. Maybe this year my predictions will have some punch to them unlike last year where I picked Tony to win it all and Kyle as my dark horse. Of course, we all know neither one of them didn’t win the Championship, but hey it wasn’t too far out in left field especially with Kyle. Tony finished 6th while Kyle finished 7th. Not bad, but maybe this year will be the one I get things right.
Good luck in Dover boys…hey Tony watch out for the #19!
Hurricane Ike
First and foremost my thoughts and prayers got out to my fellow Texans affected by Hurricane Ike. I lived in Houston for a few years back in the late 90s and its hard to watch the coverage of Hurricane Ike. I have made many visits to Galveston and it pains me to see what has happened to the Island as well as Houston. I see places where I have been or driven past during my time down in that part of Texas. Even though I do no longer live in that part of Texas, my heart goes out to those who live there. As a Texan, we are all affected by this.
Here are some photos I took during one of my visits to Galveston a few years ago. Galveston, like New Orleans will recover from all of this.
Water, Water, Everywhere
While preparing my famous layer dip for a co-worker’s birthday party on Friday, I heard a knock on the door. I was trying to figure out who was at the door. One it was about 7:30 at night and I knew with all the torrential rains you had to be crazy. Postman answered the door and it was the UPS guy. I had received a box from 1-800-flowers. Who could sent me this lovely surprise? Perhaps a secret admirer…or someone in my family. Postman told me it wasn’t him. So who could have been this thoughtful person? It wasn’t my birthday (that’s in June) or my anniversary (that’s also in June)…so what was the occasion? As I opened up the card, this is what I read…
Ms. Advisor…Thank you for helping my daughter to graduate in December 2008. We really appreciate you taking the time to help. Sincerely, Father of student and student.
This was definite surprise! I have never had a parent or student thank me in such a way. I have received numerous emails as well as phone calls thanking for my help, but nothing like this has happened. Without going into too much, I worked my little tookis off and went beyond that extra mile for my student. This makes all those crazy, stressful days at work worth every minute of it.
Here is what I received…it’s some kind of bonsai tree/shrub

And one more thing…here are some photos from around Raiderland after all the rains stopped. I just can’t believe the amount of rain we received yesterday. It’s some crazy stuff!

Got Ark?
I think I saw Noah heading into Home Depot this evening. It kind of looked like him, I mean people were following him two by two. Raiderland has received, at the time of this post, about 6.5-7.5 inches of rain and we are expecting several more inches over the next few days. In fact Little Smoke’s school district will be closed tomorrow due to all this rain we have received today. I used to always wonder how in the world land locked areas flood, well now I know. Hopefully Noah has some room because if these remnants of Tropical Storm Lowell keeps hanging around I may have to get on board.
UPDATE: Still haven’t seen Noah sitting out in front of my house, but I do not have to go to work due to the waters. Classes were cancelled and only essential personnel are to report. As much as I would lovvvvveeeee to be considered essential, I am not. WOO HOO RAIN DAY, not exciting as a SNOW DAY, but hey I get to have a day off.
9.11.2001
My thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones who were forever changed on 9.11.2001. A few days after 9-11 I submitted a letter to the editor to our local paper and it still rings true with me today as it did 7 years ago.
I Am An American
