What I am REALLY saying

Who knew…I always thought I rambled on a bit much here in The Park.

And yes, I saw this on Ms. H site and I thought what they hey…I needed something random to post after taking care of BOTH Little Smoke and Postman today.  Postman has strep throat and Little Smoke has been up and down with a fever.

Happiness is Lubbock, Texas…??

Just when I thought my home town couldn’t get any crazier…A woman was asked by TSA to remove her nipple rings with a pair of pliers at the Lubbock International Airport. Are you FREAKIN’ kidding me? Since when are nipple rings considered to be a dangerous weapon that could take down an airplane? What were the TSA people thinking? Wait…THEY WEREN’T THINKING!

I saw this story on the news last night. What was the story prior to this one? Our illustrious City Council voted to spend around $6 million dollars on a vistor’s center to attract vistors to our city. How are you going to get people to come to Lubbock when you are making traveler’s remove nipple rings at the airport?

And you know your hometown has made it when Jay Leno mentions the story in his monologue.

Lubbock is nice place to raise a family. We have some of the friendliest people around and our weather isn’t too bad, but there are days I just say WTF?

As The Wheel Turns…the saga continues

When we last left our gentlemen, they were racing at Bristol and enjoying a week away from the track.  Now let’s join our boys at Martinsville…

A Roush Fenway Racing proprietary part, more specifically a anti-roll swaybar, ended up with an “evil” Toyota team at last year’s fall Dover race.  The part has, however been returned to it’s rightful owner.

I don’t claim to know all the ins and outs of how things work in the garage.  I have been in the garage area at Texas Motor Speedway and I can tell you the teams are in close proximity to one another.  But if someone did take a part from Roush, wouldn’t someone have noticed?  I know this may seem a little naive on my part, but wouldn’t somebody, somewhere noticed another team’s crew member in another crew member’s garage area?

Is it me or does this sound like another school yard tactic?

Roush hasn’t held back about his opinion with regards to Toyota.  He isn’t alone either.  I lurk around various NASCAR blogs and message boards to see what “the people” are saying.  I have found the pro-Toyota and anti-Toyota camps to be as equally vocal in their opinions.  For me, I am just a fan, plain and simple.

Congratulations to Jeff Gordon for winning the pole for Sunday’s race.

Stayed for the next episode of “As The Wheel Turns”…

Whatacustomerservice Update

I have an update from the Whatacustomerservice post from March 21.  I received a call from a gentleman who seems to know what he is doing with Whatburger.  He just wanted to follow up on my email I sent Whataburger.  I explained what happened.  He was very apologetic.  He was concerned that my mother and I had wait as long as we did.  He was concerned that I would stop going to that location.  I assured him I didn’t want to since Postman loves Whataburger and it was close to our abode.  It was a very pleasant conversation and I thanked him for contacting me.  He said he was going to send me a letter of apology and he was going to throw in some coupons for me.  Overall I was very pleased with the response I received from Whataburger.  I still may wait a few months or so before returning to the store, but hey sometimes if you are nice and pleasant with your complaint you get results.

Nashville

Yes, there was NASCAR racing this weekend.  The Nationwide Series made a stop this weekend in Nashville.  I like it when the Nationwide Series races when the Cup boys have an off weekend.  There was only a handful of Cup drivers in the race today.  It gives the Nationwide regulars a chance to shine and show their stuff.  I was able to watch majority of the race while tending to Little Smoke.  It’s good to have it on in the background especially when you are raising the next generation of NASCAR fan.

Once again Kyle Busch made his way up to the front.  And just like the previous Nationwide races dominated the race until the racing gods bite back.  This time he went traveling through the grass and back on the track.  It was late in the race so he was not able to come back and take the lead.  This gave last week’s Nationwide Series winner Clint Bowyer to take the lead, but with just 20 laps left in the race fellow teammate Scott Wimmer passed Clint for the lead and the win this week in Nashville.   This is the second week in a row an RCR Nationwide Series car is standing in victory lane.  This was Scott Wimmer’s first Nationwide win since 2003.

I have to admit it was nice to see someone in victory lane other than a Cup regular.   There has been great debate whether or not the Cup regulars should be racing in the Nationwide Series.  I don’t mind the Cupsters racing in the Nationwide Series, but there needs to be some kind of limitation on the Cupsters.  Perhaps some kind of tier system, I guess that’s what you could call it.  For example if the driver had been in a Cup 1-3 full seasons, they could be given a chance to run a full Nationwide season or run at the most 50% of the races.  In year 4 & 5 in Cup, the number of races allowed to enter should be reduced by another 25% and a driver should not be allowed to run the full season.  After year 5, Cup drivers should not be allowed to race in the series.  I would think if you are driving full time in the Cup series and have been able to run for 5 full seasons, you are good enough to maintain your ride in the Cup series.  The Nationwide series should be the proving ground and development series for the next generation of Cup drivers.  I think some of these young drivers come up too soon.  There are expected to perform on a grand stage every single week.  There are those drivers who can come in and do just fine at the Cup level, but for the most of them I think they need the chance to develp their skills and establish a fan base.  So when they come up to the Cup level, they will have a bit more experience and perhaps a better rate of success.

I know NASCAR is driven by the sponsors and the all might dollar.  That’s just the way it is today.  A sponsor who spends millions of dollars on a sponsorship would expect to get their money’s worth.  If I was a sponsor, I would want to sponsor a team and a driver who could deliver week to week.  But sometimes you have to take a chance with someone.  What if Home Depot didn’t take a chance with JGR and a driver by the name of Tony Stewart?  Or what about Dupont?  I just think there needs to be some kind of happy medium.  Until then I will be watching…will you?

If you have every visited the state of Texas you see this symbol quite often. Whataburger has good burgers. They are made to order and fresh right after you place it. My husband could there for all his meals. Usually you receive pretty good service. I have had only a few instances where the service was not up to par. Unfortunately today was the worst service I had received from Whataburger.

My mother and I decided to stop in to get a quick bite to eat. It wasn’t very crowded. There were two other families in the restaurant, hardly a crowd. I don’t know if the shift manager saw my mother and I walk in or not, but it was fairly obvious we wanted to place our order. I mean I was standing at the counter in front of the register. Hello…isn’t that the international signal for “I need to place my order“? She finally took our order and no “Hi, what can I get you today?” or “How may I help you?“. It was “What can I get you?“. Shortly after placing our order a gentleman placed his order. I thought it was going to be a good day because our number was “20”.

While waiting for our order I noticed one of the employees talking on her cell phone! That’s right her CELL PHONE. It was clear she was trying to make a date or arrange for her pickup. Either way, she should have be away from the food counter. If she was off the clock, sit you butt down in a booth and not behind the counter where it is assumed you are still working. After the “employee” was finished with her phone call she proceeded to take down her long hair and start flinging it around. All of this was taking place behind the food counter.

After about 15 minutes, I decided to see where the HELL our order was. It wasn’t like we ordered anything special. A Whataburger Jr. meal and a chicken strip meal. These are easy meals to prepare. Nothing too it right? Apparently not with this crew. The gentleman who ordered roughly about the same time we did was now at the counter. He was VERY upset, but remained calm while asking about his meal. He too ordered a simple meal–hamburger, fries, drink. The employee that was manning the fryer got snippy with him when he was commenting on his situation and mine. She actually told him to calm down. I don’t know where that came from because he was polite and calm. He never raised his voice or got irate.

When another employee asked if she could help me, I told her I was waiting on my order. She then asked if it was through the drive thru or inside. Hello…read your stinkin’ tv screen! You know the one that has MY FREAKIN’ ORDER ON IT!! By this time I was tired and frustrated and I just didn’t want to sit inside Whataburger any more. I wanted my mom’s money back and so did the other customer. I know this will be taken seriously since he made the comment he will let the manager know what happened. That’s right my friends..he is going to let the manager know how bad we were treated. I also let Whataburger know as well. I headed right for the Whataburger website and sent them my story.

Postman and I visit this particular store quite often during the month. It’s close to the house, but now I will drive to one that is further away because of the service I received.
