Just stuff

It’s that time of the year…NASCAR and Football!!

I have been watching quite a bit of NASCAR lately trying to get pumped up for The Chase here in a few weeks.  Congrats to Tony for his win at Watkins Glen.  That makes three wins this year and 30 bonus points and he is securely in The Chase.  I was a little upset that Mark’s crew chief tried to play the gas mileage game last week at Michigan.  Mark was not in a position to go for the win last week unlike Jimmie Johnson.  It was not worth the gamble and well..Mark is now 12th in the standings.  Congrats to Brian Vickers last week for his first win in the #83 and his Red Bull team.  Plus his stock went up with me because frankly, Kyle needs his ass kicked.  He is a good driver don’t get me wrong, but enough already.  I agree with Brian Vickers…I didn’t get the memo stating either that it was the Kyle Busch show.  It’s called racing Kyle did you get THAT memo?  It’s great Kyle is passionate about his racing, but you aren’t going to win every single race.  Sometimes the mark of a good racer is the way you behave when you lose.

I have my fantasy football set for this year.  This will be first time I have ever attempted fantasy football.  I didn’t go to the draft part because I was dealing with a cranky infant.  However I sent Postman with my game plan and budget and to be honest he did pretty good.  I really, really wanted Peyton Manning as my other quarterback, but he just went for too much money and to be honest that was not where I needed to put my money.  Besides I do have his brother Eli as my main QB so I am pretty OK with the team.  I would rather have a team with several good players than a team with one star and crappy players.  We shall see how things go for me—stay tuned.

Work has been somewhat interesting and stressful of late.  But hopefully things have turned the corner…as they say hope springs eternal

I am excited about how the Texas Rangers are challenging for the playoffs this year.  I have actually enjoyed watching them.  And now that Pudge is back it’s going to be interesting to watch that Wild Card race with Boston and Tampa Bay.  Go Rangers!  Hopefully the Cowboys are somewhat better than last year.  I think with TO leaving and Romo able to get focused on things on the field instead of what’s going on in the tabloids etc.  It’s going to be interesting as well for my Red Raiders.   I am excited though.  I don’t know if it will be as thrilling as last year, but I am sure the Red Raiders will have some surprises this year.

Little Smoke starts first grade on Monday!  Woo Hoo! We still have some issues we all have to work through, but he is improving and I think things will settle down once he gets into his school routine.  He is playing flag football this year and Postman will be his coach.   Postman may have to ban me from his games because I can get a little passionate about football and no I am NOT one of those moms either.  I respect what the coaches do and let them do their job.

Posted in What I know.

That wasn’t a football game I watched last night between my beloved Red Raiders and those Sooners from Oklahoma. I don’t know what went terribly wrong. I know what I saw was NOT the Red Raiders from the previous games of the last several weeks. I think the OU Defense rattled our cages so much we couldn’t recover. There were a few little flickers of the Red Raiders that have been playing this season, but for majority of the game the Sooners kicked our Red Raider asses–plain and simple. We are still having a great season despite last night’s gams. We in Red Raider nation will be cheering on those Cowboys from Oklahoma State next weekend. For if the Cowboys can beat those Sooners, we will be tied with Texas for the Big 12 South standings. We of course would win the Big 12 south because we did beat Texas (still one of the best TTU games I have seen this season). And thus head to the Big 12 championship title game against Missouri. You cannot count out the Cowboys. The game is in Stillwater and OSU plays tough against their in-state rival OU.

Even though it was very painful to watch the game last night, I am still proud of my Red Raiders. We are still 10-1 this morning and enjoying one of the best seasons in a very long time. There is still football to be played next Saturday against Baylor in the last home game of the season. Plus there is still a lot of football to be played out there. Stand proud Red Raider nation!

Race 3: Kansas

Splash of gas and four tires…

  • Congrautions to Jimmy Johnson. Watch out, he’s making his move.  Will he threepeat?
  • That was some gutsy move by Carl in the last lap of the race. If he could have controlled it, I think he would have beaten Jimmie.
  • Way to go Biffle. Nice 3rd place finish. So far that is 2 wins and a Top 5 over the first three races. It does suck the other two guys contending are right up there with you.
  • Kyle Busch–yikes! I guess the NASCAR gods are striking back!
  • Mucho kudos to Jeff Gordon. He told the ESPN prerace folks he was feeling the worse he had ever felt before race in his career. He finished 4th. Not bad I must say.
  • I hate to say it, I am getting close to resigning to the fact Tony will not be a factor in the Chase
  • I see Paul Menard is leaving DEI and headed to Yates Racing. Good luck with that!
  • A.J. Allmendinger is out at Red Bull and raced his last race for them at Kansas. Mike Skinner and Scott Speed will share duties in the #84 the rest of the season. Speed will most likely be the driver of the #84 next year.
  • I can’t really say anyone is completely out of it yet, I mean it is Talladega on Sunday.  One big one and you can take out half the field.  So pull the belts tight and hang on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

4th Down and inches to go…

  • Cowboys lost to the Redskins.  The Redskins beat the Cowboys.  Cowboys only rushed for 11 times the entire game.  Are you freakin’ kiddin’ me?  No wonder we didn’t win.
  • TO is at it again.  I knew it was only going to be a matter of time before he voiced his concerns about not getting the ball.  Whatever TO.  You weren’t the only one not getting the ball on Sunday.
  • I am currently particiapting in a contest where you pick the winner of the NFL games every week.  It really sucked this weekend.  I mean come on, Cleveland vs Cincinnati.  You might as well have flipped a coin on that one.  Of course, I picked Cinncinnati.
  • Texas Tech is currently sitting 7th in the AP poll and 8th in the USA Today Poll.  Not bad.  Of course there were a couple of upsets this weekend to help them climb to that spot.  The only bad thing it was a bye week for us.  We open Big 12 Conference play this weekend against Kansas State at Manhattan.  I hope we go in and show the pollsters we earned that ranking.  Wreck ‘Em Tech!!!!
  • OSU beat USC, however that was Oregon State not Ohio State that did the deed.  ‘Bama took it to Georgia (41-30); Ole Miss beat #4 Florida (31-30); and unranked Michigan over #9 Wisconsin (27-25).
  • Oklahoma is currently #1 in both the AP and USA Today polls.  The Red Raiders play the Sooners November 22 in Norman.   I am sure One Lugnut Short is in Sooner heaven right now.

One final note from The Park…I will be traveling to Chicago tomorrw for a conference.  I am looking forward to getting away for a few days.  I won’t have my computer with me during my litte jaunt to the Windy City, So this looks to be the last post for the week.  Have a great week!
