We love NY–we don’t love NY

It is chamipionship week in New York City this week.  Let me just say, whoopee! (note the hint of a little sarcasm).

Every year there is always talk about why the awards ceremony is in New York city.  In my opinion bottom line it’s one of the biggest markets and it’s a way to wine and dine sponsors and possible sponsors.  I know there are probably fellow NASCAR fans in that part of the country, but when you think of NASCAR, New York City is not the first thing to pop in your mind.  There has been discussion among those of us in the NASCAR nation about moving the ceremony to a different location.  Why not Vegas or Daytona or even Charlotte where majority of the teams reside?  With the creation of the Hall of Fame why not move it to Charlotte?  What’s wrong with Charlotte?  I think perhaps you could rotate the week among a selct group of race cities that way it will give those fans in other parts of the US to see their champions.  I would love for it to be held in the DFW area.  I would probably go to the events since I live about 5-6 hours away and I know I would spend more money that week than perhaps on a race weekend.  Why not give the fans a big THANK YOU for their support they show throughout the racing season as well as the off season.  I know just because the boys aren’t racing every weekend I am not thinking about racing.  NASCAR is worried about losing viewers, fans, etc.  Why not make the week special for the fans?  I would love to travel to New York this time of the year.  New York has a lot to offer, but with Christmas around the corner, I can’t afford all that plane fair and hotel…my gosh…with it were to say be held in Dallas, I could drive in and stay some friends and enjoy my time celebrating the champions of the sport I love.

Just one fan’s opinion.

Still Here…Barely

I am still around, just under the radar.  I hope everyone a happy Thanksgiving.  We had a white Thanksgiving.  It was nice because it finally felt like fall instead of summer.  I am still working on my “Not So Championship” awards.  I am still recovering from the past weekend and all that football. Just in case you didn’t get a chance to catch it all..here are some highlights.Dallas and Green Bay won. LSU was knocked off again in OT this time by unranked Arkansas. Missouri vs Kansas Border Showdown was good.  I was expecting a better showing by Kansas, but Missouri’s defense just dominated the game.  Missouri now plays for the Big 12 championship against Oklahoma.  And for those of you who don’t remember…Tech beat OU…but lost to Missouri.A&M beat Texas.  I don’t care for either team, but I like A&M better than tu (as the Ags would say). I guess that’s about it for now…Have a great week.

One more thing..since it is the holiday season I thought I would decorate The Park!

Almost the End

Only two more racing days left.  I wanted to watch the truck race, but my desire to find some books to read during the off season and the fact I really don’t have any interest in hearing about JJ all weekend.  I did find one book and I hope I can get it read during the off season.  I have time since I will have Sundays free.  Congratulations to Ron Hornaday and KHI for bringing home the Craftsman Truck Series championship.Oh yea…Jimmie has the pole.  I will be watching football tomorrow.  The big Ohio State and Michigan game is on tomorrow.  GO BUCKS!  My Red Raiders play the Sooners tomorrow on national television.  Tech doesn’t always play their finest football when a national audience is watching.  This is our last regular season game of the year.  I would love to see us win, but the Sooners are a strong team.  Mike Leach’s was fined by the Big 12 $10,000 buckeroos this week for his remarks regarding officiating in the Big 12.  Since Oregon lost last night to Arizona, Kansas holds its destiny in their own hands.  Was anyone surprised that A-Rod is still a Yankee?  I can’t say that I am.  It was much ado about nothing.Barry Bonds?  I don’t care.  You lie to the grand jury and obstruct justice, you should be punished.  Did he use steroids—only Barry Bonds knows.  Either way baseball will never be the same.Thanksgiving is around the corner and I for one am looking forward to spending time with good friends and eating yummy food and watching some football. And no you won’t have to pull me from the ledge after this weekend…I have survived the previous off seasons and I will survive this one.Take care…

Race 9: Phoenix

Better late than never…same old stuff…different track.  I really thought Jeff was going to give Jimmie a run in the last couple of races, but alas…it looks like the Jimmie will be crowned champion once again.  I make no bones about the fact that I don’t like Jimmie Johnson, but I have to raise by glass to him this season.  He has dominated the season like no one else really has well…since his teammate Jeff did it.  But watch out Jimmie…we are coming for you next year!

The 2007 season will be over as of Sunday.  This has been somewhat of a crazy year for all of fans.  The COT, Junior, cheating, HMS domination, etc.  I for one am tired and I will take the off season to rest up for the 2008 season.   Miami will be the end of some relationships.  The biggest one will be Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Dale will race his final race in the #8 Budweiser car for his father’s company.  Next year he will be with team HMS.  This will also be the last time we see Mark Martin in the #01 car.  He will split time next year in the #8 car for DEI.  Kyle Busch will vacate HMS (to make room for Dale) to Joe Gibbs racing and the #18.  I for one am looking forward to the new addition to JGR.  I have on my blog not been very kind to Kyle, but I have given him on honest since he announced he was headed over to be teammates with Tony.  I have to admit this boy can drive and I really don’t care if he speaks his mind.  I am a Tony fan after all.  We say good-bye once again to Ricky Rudd as he plans to retire after this season.  Dale J. will also retire next year after running his 5-6 races next year.  I would like to see him in the broadcast booth.  For all those other drivers and sponsors moving on to bigger and better opportuinites, we will miss you and come back and see us some time.  And last, but certainly not least we will say goodbye to the current car and HELLO to the COT full time next year.

I am looking forward to the Truck race.  I don’t know who I want to win, but you know it is going to come down to the last laps if the last few races are indication of how this thing will turn out.

My hopes for the off season…I hope NASCAR looks at the top 35 rule and perhaps tweaking the tire for the COT.  I am hoping the open wheelers are given a fair shake in NASCAR.  A couple of them are pretty good drivers, they didn’t get where they are by being mediocre.  If history proves, open wheelers can succeed in NASCAR.  I believe Tony started out as an open wheeler and I think he’s been pretty succesful.  I hope we don’t beat Dale’s success or failures with HMS to death.  No matter what Mr. Hendrick does, it will get criticized for it.  Give them a chance to prove what he can do for Junior.

As for my off season…I plan to hang out with friends and family I have neglected over the past 9 months.  And perhaps spend some quality time with Postman besides on Sundays.  I will probably be working on our adoption process–good thing most of what I need to get done is during the off season.

As mentioned in an earlier posting last week, I will have my 2nd annual “Not-So Championship” Awards.  I am still debating who will be crowned this years “Not-So Champion”.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions, let me know.  This year’s race has been a close one.

Have a good one.

Randomness Strikes Again

I really haven’t had the desire to write anything about NASCAR this week.  I don’t know if the reason is because all the talk has been about Jeff and Jimmie or something else.  Maybe it’s just the fact that after next weekend, we will all find out who finally wins this whole thing and the 2007 will finally be over. So I thought I would just write about some randomness.

Thanksgiving is coming up….YEA!!!  What a holiday Thanksgiving is.  Where else do you get to celebrate eating and watching football?  I love my family, I really do, but there are times I am ask myself…am I adopted?  We put the FUN in dysnfunction.  I also feel Thanksgiving gets a screwed of all the holidays.  It is stuck between Halloween and Christmas.  Some grab a turkey leg, watch some football and tell someone Happy Thanksgiving.

Because it is supposedly now the holiday season, I can now get my Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks.  A few years ago I wouldn’t even consider the possibility of paying that much for a cup of coffee, but thanks to a trip up to Indianapolis last October I’m hooked.  Plus they have some delicious pastries that can accompany your coffee…this morning I will be chowing down on a Cranberry Bliss.  YUM!!!

I really like what I do for a living.  It’s a very rewarding job and can at times try the patience of a saint, but I can’t see myself doing anything else.  But lately it has been CRAZY!  It’s not so much the work, but the workers.  On some levels I would rather work with some trained monkeys than some of the people I do.  Come to work and do your FREAKIN’ JOB!  If you don’t like the job, find another.  If you perceive I am trying to make you look bad, don’t bother…you do that all on your own.  What you are doing is affecting not only your coworkers, but the customers you serve.  Who is ultimately the reason you are here.

I must be headed down the path to Hades because every time I turn around someone tells me they are praying for me.  Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind people who feel the need to pray for me because I could use all the help I need, but you don’t have to tell me like I am some evil person who needs saving.  Case in point–someone who I really don’t care to associate with, but have to on a daily basis, told me they have been really (an they stressed the REALLY part) praying for me.  Are you praying for me because you think I talk too much or live a life of sin?  Are you praying for me because I am not Miss Sunshine in the morning?  Whatever the reason, I don’t need you to pray for me because you are doing it to be mean spirited.  I am not living the life of sin you think I am.  I am kind to children and my fellow man.  When I talk to someone else about others, I am not making things up, I am stating the cold hard truth.  And finally I have and never will be Miss Sunshine in the morning.  I am not a morning person.  If I don’t smile and say “Good Morning” to you–don’t take it personally.  I do the same thing to people who know and love me.  They know not to expect to be at my best before 10:00 am in the morning.  That’s just who I am.  GET OVER IT!

It’s a Friday and it is the end of work week.  I have 8 hours until I have a couple of days off.  Lots of things to occupy my time this weekend…NASCAR, Tech v UT game, Cowboys/Giants game, and the least of all cleaning my house.  But all in all it will be a much better time than being at work.

Let me leave you with these parting words which I read every day before I begin my 8 hours of work…”Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill because they pissed me off.”

Race 8: Texas

p1010190.jpgI really wanted to be in Ft. Worth this weekend to make my annual pilgramage, but now I am glad I didn’t make the trip. It would have been a long miserable trip back to Raiderland. THAT driver won–enough said. There’s nothing left to say of today’s race except enough already. I get it. There ARE 41 other cars out there. I say to the rest of the field, stay home because you won’t get any air time. Why don’t we just have the #24 and #48 on the track because it seems that’s all the broadcasters care about these days. I hope Jeff Gordon wins the championship. I am just tired of hearing about THAT driver. Did anyone see Jeff holding his daughter during the prerace cermonies? How cute was she? Of course when you have a beautiful momma and a handsome daddy, you will look that cute. She definitely hit the gene lottery. Tony didn’t do too bad today. It wasn’t as good as last November when he dominated the race and won, but he had a decent day. So on to other things….

The truck race was pretty exciting. A late crash takes out the two contenders for the Truck championship, then on the restart takes out the driver who was going for his first win…next thing you know you get Ted Musgrave who hasn’t won in awhile come away with the victory. The truck races at TMS always never disappoint.

Congratulations to Kevin Harvick, last year’s Busch champion, for winning yesterday. Too bad it didn’t carry over to today’s race.

Way to go Cousin Carl for winning your first championship. You had the championship pretty much all season.

I hope everyone of my buds who were in Ft. Worth this weekend had a fun one. Looking forward to seeing the pictures!

I did get to watch a little football. I flipped back and forth between the race and the Colts/Pats game. This weekend was a bust all around for me. The Colts lost–enough said. Texas Tech beat Baylor. And how can Oklahoma State let Texas score 24 points in the 4th quarter and lose the ball game? Where was the DEFENSE??? Ohio State is still #1. Looks like it is going to come down to the Ohio State/Michigan game to see who will win the Big Ten. We all know who I am rooting for…GO BUCKS!!!!

A BIG congrats to NAVY for beating Notre Dame in triple OT. It’s been since 1963 since you have beaten the Irish. Who was the quarterback? Someone named Roger Staubach. I think he knew a little about some football.

Only two races left until the end of the NASCAR season. I am a little sad because I will feel lost without my boys on Sunday. I will, however, be able to focus on the rest of the football and other things I have put aside during the NASCAR season. For those of you who read my sight on a semi regular basis, I mentioned that Postman and I are working on adopting. We are still plodding through the process. We are at the end of all the paperwork phase and down to the home study phase, etc. I am hoping we will have children in our house within the next few months. With that said I will be somewhat glad to have this season over this year. I am excited about next year. Last year I had the “Not-So-Championship” Awards. I am still planning to have them. I am currently wading through nominees. If you have a driver or someone you would like to receive a “Not So Championship” award, let me know. There have been a lot of “Not So Championship” moves this season.

Have a good week.
