Recycling

Since the trendy thing these days is to be environmentally aware and all into recycling I thought I would recycle a previous post of mine.  Since we just finished Daytona where driving can be somewhat precarious at times, I thought you might enjoy this post rant about my hometown “drivers” which I first posted back on April 21, 2006.

It’s Friday–I am tired and I am in no mood for you Lubbock drivers.

Yellow light–hello–caution!!!–means the light is going to turn red. This doesn’t give you permission to speed through the intersection in the hopes you won’t have to sit through the light cycle again. Of course it doesn’t help when you see a LPD officer do the same thing. Shouldn’t they be setting the example here???

And heaven forbid the light should be red. I was sitting at a light today coming back to work from my lunch and I saw..count them…three cars run the red light. Luckily most of us waited until they went through the intersection. I have learned to hesitate before putting my SUV into an intersection in Lubbock.

Turn signals are a good thing. Just because you know where you are going doesn’t mean I do. I drive a big blue SUV…I cannot…I REPEAT…cannot stop on a dime. I am not participating in some brake experiment for Hyundai to see how well my brakes work.

I don’t know how many road construction projects Lubbock is undertaking at the moment, but it seems where ever I drive around town I see orange cones. People when the bright orange sign reads “Left lane closed ahead” it really is closed. Don’t drive up the left lane until you can’t drive no more and expect me to let you over (even if your signal is on) I read the sign. I moved into the other lane that was available for driving. And don’t even try to “squeeze in” either. Take a look at my back windows…I am a NASCAR fan, I have no problem with hitting another car. Isn’t that what insurance is for????

I dont’ like it when drivers cut me off, but if you do, DON’T SLOW DOWN once you get in front of me. I figured the reason you cut me off was to take the no space for you car spot in front of me despite the fact there was NOBODY behind me!

And finally–those of you who don’t the idea of merging onto the Loop…let me share some of the wisdom I learned in driver’s ed. When you merge into traffic, you should be almost or up to the speed of those cars that you are merging with. You don’t STOP or SLOW down! The only time you STOP is if you can’t merge. When another driver such as myself gives you space to merge—FREAKIN’ MERGE–DON’T SLOW DOWN!!

I would continue on with my discussion here, but I don’t have that kind of time.

So if you come to Lubbock, beware!

Slower Traffic

This flag should have been thrown this morning. I swear it must be “Drive Slow To Work Day”. I wasn’t even late for work. I was on track to make it early to work, but damn what was with the drivers this morning? Hello, do you not remember driver’s ed? Slower cars to the right so that faster cars can pass on by. And I was even going the speed limit to boot. Of course it didn’t feel like it when you have cars that are in parade mode. One piece of advice…it’s the pedal on the right…you should try it some time!

Tony Stewart Experience

While listening to my Sirius online I hear this little promo for the chance to enter this contest…Tony Stewart Experience

I registered, don’t know if I will win, but you can’t win if you don’t enter. If you want to enter, you have until 5:00 pm EST, July 7, 2008 to enter.

I called my hubby, Postman and mentioned the contest and asked him he could handle the exeperience. His response was very lukewarm. Said he probably wouldn’t be able to take off work. I know he is not a big fan of Tony’s, but come on now…this would be a once in a life time chance to hang with Tony. Of all my peeps, he would be the only one that would understand the NASCAR thing. I guess if he doesn’t want to go (if I were to win), then I would have to find someone else.

I don’t care…I still entered!

George Carlin

I know two posts in one day. I just couldn’t go the day without mentioning the death of George Carlin. I thought he was very funny and he really made you think about things. I saw this routine about “Stuff” and no matter how many times I saw it was funny.

Of course some of us may remember George as Fillmore in the movie Cars.

Just a few notes…

Just a few little tidbits from yesterday…

1.  Rain delay

2.  Carl Edwards has pole

4.  The Big Whiner…oops Denny Hamlin won.

5.  Joey Lagano qualified 8th and finishes 6th.  Way to Joey.  This guy my be the real thing, but the jury is still out on if he is the best thing to come along since sliced bread.

The Monster Mile

I am so ready for the weekend to get.  Work has SUCKED this week!

The boys are at Dover International Speedway this week aka “The Monster Mile”.  I love short track racing.  Dover is a 1-mile track with 24 degrees of banking and you know with 43 cars, 43 egos, and several drivers hungry for their first win of the season or their first in awhile, this is going to be an interesting race.

The drivers should have a little bit of handle on the car since the COT was raced at the track last.  However, this is the first race where the new rule regarding the “yaw” will be instituted.  It will be interesting to see what teams that have had the cars all “crabbed out” will do.  Some teams had their cars more crabbed than others.

Of course the biggest story this weekend, is the debut of 18-year old, Joey Lagano, who some claim is the next best thing to come along since well, sliced bread. Joey will be driving the #20 Nationwide series car which has been a roll this year in the Nationwide Series.  So I will be watching this weekend to see if he is the next best thing since sliced bread.  With the introduction of Joey into the Nationwide Series this weekend, it probably won’t be long before we see him the Cup series.  If this kids has the chops to be the next Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart, I would like to see him run in the Nationwide series for a couple of years before moving to the Cup level.  This way he would get seat time and experience as well as a chance to build a fan base that he could bring up to the Cup level.  With the introduction of Joey this weekend, does this mean he is the “heir apparent” to Smoke if he decides to leave JGR either at the end of the season (which has been denied all over the place) or at the end of 2009?  Only time will tell.

Speaking of Smoke, tomorrow is June 1 and all of us Stewart fans know this is the time of the season that he gets hot.  This isn’t the first time Tony has gone winless in the first 4 months of the season.  In fact he has done it 7 times in his 10 years in the series.  Of course he hasn’t won since, Watkins Glen last year and after last week’s heartbreak, I look for Tony to be more hungry than ever.  I hope this is the week Tony gets his first win of the season.

Few other notes from this week…

  • Elliott Sadler resigned a multi-year deal with Gillette-Evernham Motorsports.
  • Television ratings are up for NASCAR as a result of…I really don’t know, but all I know is there has been some good racing this year and perhaps this is the result of it or it could just be the price of gas is keeping everyone at home.
  • Fox will finish up their broadcast coverage this weekend.  TNT will take over for the next several weeks with ESPN taking over at The Brickyard on July 27.  Of the three networks, I like Fox and ESPN.  I am not a fan of TNT’s coverage, but I will survive.  I mean TNT only has 6 races.
  • Dale Earnhardt is still winless.  I wonder how many times will this fact be mentioned this weekend.

And one more thing…

The Prelude to the Dream will be this coming Wednesday, June 4 at Tony Stewart owned Eldora Speedway. Don’t forget to place your order for the pay-per-view event over on HBO. I watched last year and I loved it. It was pretty cool to see all these NASCAR drivers as well as few others from other racing leagues take to the dirt for such a worthy cause. Tony is hoping to raise money for the second Victory Junction Gang camp which will be located in Kansas City, KN. It was interesting to see Juan Pablo Montoya race on dirt for the first time. And if anyone has doubt about Jeff Gordon’s ability should have seen him on the dirt. I for one will be tuning in this year.
