Good Knight

This just in from Raiderland…Coach Bobby Knight has resigned as the Men’s Basketball coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders effectively immediately. This is not a surprise, but somewhat a shock since the season is not over yet.  His son, Pat Knight will take over coaching duties.  He will be missed.  Thanks for the memories Coach!

We Are the Champions

Congratulations to the New York Giants!

I wanted the Giants to win yesterday.  As much as it would have been interesting to see the Patriots go 19-0, I just couldn’t physically cheer for them (I am Colts fan.).  I was sad to see Wes Welker miss out on a Super Bowl ring.  He was the only person on the Patriots I cheered for yesterday.  Wes played at TTU and so it would have been so cool to see him win his ring.  I believe if the Patriots had won yesterday, he would have been given the MVP award.  The Giants took the Patriots to town last night.  The Giants pressured Brady and sacked him 5 times.  The defense never let up!  They rocked!  All the pre-game stuff and everything leading up to the game was all about the Patriots (well, from my point of view).  Everyone thought the Patriots were going to win this game.  They were the favorites in this game.  Some might say the pressure was on the Giants, but I don’t believe so.  The pressure was on the Patriots.  After they were 18-0 going into the Super Bowl and to be considered (in my opinion) one of the greatest season, they had to pull off the victory in the Super Bowl.

I felt the Giants could have beaten the Patriots the first go around if not for the Brady/Moss pass in the 4th quarter.  And Brady conncected to Moss late in the 4th quarter to take the lead for the final time of the night.  I was a little worried with under 3 minutes to play if Manning could pull of that kind of winning drive.  I kept yelling at the tv…”channel Peyton”…”channel Peyton”.  I mean his big brother has had a few winning drives in his time.  I still don’t know how Manning escape the clutches of the Patriots defense and what an awesome catch by Tyree.  That reception changed everything for the Giants.  And finally the winning touchdown pass from Manning to Burress was beautiful.  The Patriots didn’t give up.  Brady tried to connect with Moss for a long ball, but the defense for the Giants once again stood and took charge.

Some may say (New England Pat fans) that Giants ruined the Patriots perfect season, but I disagree.  The Giants came into that game last night and KICKED ASS–NEW YORK STYLE!  The Patriots were outplayed…bottom line.  And from this Cowboy fan to the New Giants…well done!

Congratulations to the New York Giants!

Goodbye

It’s goodbye.  No, I am not leaving The Park, just cleaning out the crevices of one part of the blog.  I am “donating” all my Jeff Gordon stuff to a fellow NASCAR fan who just happens to be a rabid Jeff Gordon freak.  I know that was quite a bit of redunancy in that statement, but it’s true.  And yes, I have was once a Jeff Gordon freak, but as one of my fellow NASCAR buddies told me, I woke up and saw the light.  I know this stuff will go to a good home and will be cherished just as much as I cherish my Tony Stewart items.  I still have a few things in the house (collector cars, magazines, etc).  Theyare just too expensive to just give away.   My good deed has been done for the day.

My Weekend of Nothing

I really didn’t do much this weekend.  I did watch a little of the 24 hours at Daytona, but not as much as I did last year.  I guess I was distracted by the Winter X games.  I don’t know why these things fascinate me so.  I guess when someone takes a snowmobile up a ramp and do a flip with it I guess that’s exciting to me.  Postman and I were watching some of the games yesterday and got caught up in the event called Skier X.  Bascially you have skiers racing down the slope at a very fast pace.  Kind of like NASCAR on snow, but without all the pit stops, roar of the engines, etc.  There were several hard crashes yesterday at the next to the last jump on the course.  These crashes were just your typically crashes.  These are knock the crap out of you, need good drugs, ouch kind of crashes.  These are the kind that will definitely leave a mark.  These are the kind that end up on Sportscenter.  This was way better than watching golf and Postman playing video games…yawn.

This is the week all the Superbowl hype begins–enough already.  Who cares if Brady hurt his ankle and is or is not wearing some sort of boot on his foot.  I usually don’t watch all the pre-pre-pre game stuff on Superbowl Sunday.  I am all about the game.  That’s it.  I feel the same way about the Daytona 500.  Get to the race already.  Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see the Duals again this year.  I thought about taking off Valentine’s day to spend some time with Postman, but unfortunately that whole J-O-B thing gets in the way.  Plus I can’t even listen to the duals on NASCAR.com either because of some training thing I have to be at ALL FREAKIN’ DAY!  I mean seriously people 2 full days to learn this stuff.  Come on now…what could possibly take that long that two FULL days are needed.  One day maybe, but two!  Guess I will find out soon enough.

I have to agree with Postman over at Inside the Shell.  I am in the wrong professon.  200/hour for working?  But hey sometimes working in the government has it’s benefits too.  It seems like you can hold you job for a long time and the only way you can get fired is if you really screw up BAD…well, unless you are elected.

Have a great one!

The little things

I usually try not to worry about the little things in life because it isn’t worth my time and effort, but sometimes the little things end up being bigger than they claim.  That’s what has occupied my time this past week or so…the little things.

I am excited about the upcoming season.  All drivers are still in the hunt for a championship.  I am trying to look on the positive side of things.  I have to since both of my teams are NOT in the Super Bowl.  I won’t go into my dilemma of which team I should root for this year.  I have to pick someone, but it’s pretty much a wash for me.

Things to look forward to in the coming weeks.

  • 24 hours at Daytona
  • Superbowl
  • Bud Shootout
  • Dual 150s
  • Daytona 500

This may upset some of you who are members of Junior nation.  I am glad Junior is with a team who will give him the best equipment and the best chance at a championship.  I understand all that.  I also understand the pressure he must feel on a daily.  He is the son the of one the legends of NASCAR and there are certain expectations the sport has laid at his feet, but…I am hoping his saga this year will NOT dominate every single race weekend.  This year will be an adjust period for him.  Sure he will be in a Chevy unlike my driver who will be driving a completely different make of car.  But the last two NASCAR mags I recieved or purchased has Junior and his teammates with him on the cover.  The one I purchased last night had only Jimmie, Jeff , and Junior.  The title on the cover “Dream Team”.  If I am not mistaken doesn’t HMS have 4 drivers competing in Cup?  Where’s the love for Casey?  Just a thought….

I am going through all the NASCAR magazines to see who the expects have picked to win it all this year.  I have been able to sift thorugh all the stats and analsis myself.  I didn’t do very good last year, but perhaps with a little more time spent on it and putting aside my personal feelings I improve on my statistics.

One more thing…I am very proud of myself this week.  I have had to deal with the COH (aka Co-worker from Hell) the last couple of weeks.  I could have stooped to this person’s method of operation, but I didn’t.  I am choosing to take the high road which isn’t always easy for me.  I guess in the end you have to pick the battles you can win so that you can ultimately win the war.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

We The Jury…

I got to spend most of day trying to perform my civic responsibility.  That’s right folks, I was chosen to serve, well not quite.  I was one of the “lucky” who was asked to sit in a panel of potential jurors.  But alas they didn’t pick me…YIPEE!!!  It was a civil case and it was going to take 3-4 days.  YUCK!  I feel a little slighted they didn’t pick me.  I am pretty sure why I wasn’t picked (thanks Postman and your union stuff), but that wasn’t the real reason. I think all the people involved in the case were Jimmie Johnson fan’s (he he).  I was wearing my Tony Stewart jacket when I walked into the courtroom.  It’s a conspriacy, man!

Any way…one more personal note, if you read  my blog on a usual basis, you know that Postman and I have been going through the adoption process.  Well, we were officially approved last week and now all we have to do is wait for our caseworker to match us up.  I for one am relieved.  The application/approval hit a snap last week, but due to some fast maneuvering it was all taken care of.  Thanks!

Back to the track…I saw Tony finished 8th in this year’s Chili Bowl.  Way to go!  I would have loved to been there because as much as I love to watch Tony race on Sunday’s I really like to watch him on dirt.  Dirt is much more exciting.  I saw Tony was in the top ten at yesterday’s testing.  Doesn’t matter what kind of make of the car he is driving, it’s Tony.  He will do well whereever he drives and whatever he drives.  Can’t wait until the season begins….

Football season is officially over for this Cowboys/Colts fan.  Ugh…two hits in one this past weekend.  The Chargers played the Colts extremely well.  I have to give some props to the Chargers backup for their winning touchdown drive to put them on top of the Colts.  Well…there is still at least a Manning in the hunt for a ring…Eli’s Giants won.  They didn’t beat my beloved Cowboys.  The Cowboys handed it to them.  When you drop passes you SHOULD be catching and making penalties you SHOULDN’T, you ARE NOT going to win.  I guess Peyton, Romo, and the rest of the Colts and Cowboys will be watching the Superbowl they way I will be on a couch in front of a TV.  I still have one team I can feel good about and that’s the Packers (sorry Postman).  I think Brett Favre is on top of his game this season.  Not bad for a 38 year old!  Way to represent!

Have a good one.

First Week of Testing

I really wanted to get caught up with the NASCAR boys, but work and other outside commitments have taken quite a bit of time.  I did see the Toyotas were doing a good job and Kyle Busch was having a decent test.  I will be carefully watching next week when Smoke takes to the track.  Right now he is in Tulsa, OK at the Chili Bowl which isn’t too far for me to take a weekend drive.

I have to “steal” the idea from Sirius’s Morning Drive.  With all the celebration this year at Daytona, which 3 people would you like to have dinner with during Speedweeks?  This is tough.  If I could stretch it out over several dinners, there would be quite a few people I wouldn’t breaking bread with.  First up, I would have to say Tony Stewart, AJ Foyt, Eddie Gossage.    My second dinner perhaps once again Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader, and Jimmy Spencer.  I need a few days to recover from that dinner.  A third dinner, Chocolate Meyers, Dale Jr., and Darryl Waltrip.  And finally this probably wouldn’t be a dinner, but just to hang out and have lots and lots of fun….Tony Stewart, Elliot Sadler, and Kyle Busch.

So if you could have dinner with 3 people who would you sit down with?

Have a good day.
